Yodha Movie Review:
Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha’s debut feature is an adrenaline-fueled ride through the skies. The setup is slow and bumpy, but once the plane is hijacked, tension quickly builds. There are plenty of exciting moments and twists and turns in this movie despite its predictable storyline. As a soldier caught between duty and suspicion, Sidharth Malhotra expertly navigates the highs and lows.
Yodha, a special task force established by his father (Ronit Roy), is carried on by Arun Katyal. His hijacked flight is mysteriously hijacked after he fails a critical mission. There is no doubt in his mind that he has turned his back on a system that has robbed him of everything he has ever wanted. Does Arun share the patriotism of his father, or is he more of a ‘desh ka dushman’? At 15,000 feet above the ground, everything unfolds in an action-packed thriller.
As the majority of the action unfolds on the aircraft, Sagar Ambre’s screenplay keeps viewers engaged. The mid-air stunts are thrilling, but the film lacks depth when it comes to exploring themes of courage and patriotism. It has a predictable plot twist and a predictable ending.
Although the film is well-edited, it doesn’t feel stretched and stays on course. A subtle sense of humour is also sprinkled throughout the narrative. The screenplay balances the heavy dialogue with lighter moments, e.g. “Main rahu na rahu, desh rahega.”
There is no outstanding music, aside from Ammy Virk and B Praak’s reprised version, “Qismat Badal Di.” The background score blends well with the movie’s style.
In Yodha, Sidharth returns as commando Arun Katyal, demonstrating his skills as an action hero after playing war hero Vikram Batra in Shershaah. His performance is crucial to the movie’s success. It is easy for Raashii Khanna to play Arun’s love interest. As an air hostess caught up in the hostage drama, Disha Patani plays a pivotal role. The limited role of Tanuj Virwani, another commando of the special task force, makes his presence felt. With confidence, Sunny Hinduja plays the role.
As a whole, Yodha’s action is thrilling, but it doesn’t really capture your imagination. The movie tries to be cliched with the typical action scenes, but it fails to create a lasting impression. The story is predictable and the dialogues lack the punch. All in all, Yodha is a disappointment.
