Review

“Choona” unfolds across eight gripping episodes, weaving together humor, revenge, and action. It’s a desi Robin Hood story – a group of ordinary people fighting against a corrupt system. Director Pushpendra Nath Misra deserves credit for crafting a compelling narrative with well-developed characters.

The series boasts a stellar performance by Jimmy Shergill as the ruthless politician, Shukla. He embodies the character with chilling precision, showcasing both power and vulnerability. But the real heart of the show lies in the misfit crew plotting his downfall. Each member brings a unique skillset to the table, making for some entertaining interactions.

There’s JP, the alcoholic contractor seeking redemption, and Baankey, whose life was destroyed by Shukla. Ansari, the street-smart goon, injects some muscle, while Triloki, the unpredictable trickster, adds an element of surprise. Bishnu, Shukla’s own brother-in-law, provides crucial insider information, and the enigmatic Pandit Ji adds a touch of mysticism to the plan. The leading ladies, Jhumpa and Bela, also play their roles effectively, with Bela showcasing some impressive action sequences.

While the story is engaging, there are a few bumps along the way. Some plot elements feel overly convenient, and a few more twists could have added depth. However, these minor flaws don’t overshadow the overall enjoyment.

Verdict

“Choona” is a well-crafted desi heist drama that keeps you hooked until the very end. It might not be “Money Heist,” but it offers a unique and entertaining take on the genre. If you’re looking for a series with thrilling action, unforgettable characters, and a dash of humor, “Choona” is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
