Review

Director Rohit Jugraj takes viewers on a winding journey through the underbelly of the Punjabi music industry. The non-linear narrative, crafted by Jugraj and S Fakira, keeps you guessing with its intriguing plot twists. While some plot points might feel a little convenient, like convenient romances and conveniently revealed information, “Chamak” excels in delving into the emotional complexities of its characters.

Paramvir Singh Cheema shines as Kaala, a man haunted by his past and determined to find the truth. The supporting cast delivers strong performances as well, including Manoj Pahwa, who portrays the dysfunctional family dynamics of Pratap Singh Deol with remarkable depth.

One of “Chamak’s” greatest strengths is its soundtrack. The series seamlessly blends modern Punjabi hits with traditional folk songs, creating a truly immersive experience. Cameos from Punjabi music giants like MC Square and Mika Singh not only add star power, but also organically propel Kaala’s journey forward. Other artists like Afsana Khan and Kanwar Grewal light up the screen with their voices, showcasing the rich tapestry of Punjabi music. While it might not quite capture the raw soul of traditional music seen in series like “Bandish Bandits,” “Chamak” still delivers a powerful musical punch.

Verdict

“Chamak” might start a little slow, but it quickly finds its groove with captivating twists, compelling characters, and a soundtrack that will have you tapping your feet. The cliffhanger ending leaves you wanting more, hinting at a thrilling future for “Chamak.” If you’re looking for a suspenseful drama with a heavy dose of Punjabi music, “Chamak” is definitely worth checking out.
