Story
Set in the heart of Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, “What A Kismat” introduces us to Chandu, a man perpetually chasing get-rich-quick schemes. His wife, Aarti (Vaishnavi Patwardhan), is fed up with his failures and their mounting debt. Their rocky relationship forms the crux of the story, as Chandu’s harebrained ventures constantly land them in hot water.
On paper, “What A Kismat” has the ingredients for a lighthearted comedy. The premise of a husband whose dreams clash with reality offers comedic potential. However, the script relies heavily on clichés and predictable situations. The humor often feels forced, and the jokes land with a dull thud rather than a belly laugh.
Despite its comedic shortcomings, “What A Kismat” hints at a deeper layer. The film touches on themes of financial struggles and marital strain, issues that resonate with many viewers. However, these elements are never fully explored, leaving the film feeling superficial. A more nuanced approach could have elevated the story beyond a string of wacky mishaps.
Performances
The cast delivers decent performances, with Yudhvir Dahiya bringing a certain charm to the bumbling Chandu. However, the script doesn’t give them much to work with. The production value is average, capturing the small-town setting without any visual flourishes.
Verdict
“What A Kismat” isn’t a terrible film, but it’s not particularly memorable either. The humor falls flat, and the story lacks originality. If you’re looking for a genuinely funny Hindi comedy, you might want to look elsewhere. However, if you’re curious about a light and predictable watch, “What A Kismat” might provide some harmless entertainment.
